More Info on FanFiction

More information on FanFiction.net!
There are nine different categories for fanfiction:
1) Anime/ Manga
2) Books
3) Cartoons
4) Miscellaneous
5) Games
6) Comics
7) Movies
8) Plays/ Musicals
9) TV Shows

As well as these there is another category that isn't really counted in these main categories. These are crossover stories where there may be elements from two different categories in them. For example there could be a Twilight (Books)/ Supernatural (TV Shows) fanfic.

More about the profiles of the different users. On each profile there is the standard area where you can talk about your different interests. There are different tabs on these profiles.

There are four tabs:
1) My Stories
2) Favourites Stories
3) Favourite Authors
4) Communities

The first three are straight forward. Communities on FanFiction are groups of stories because they have a certain element in common. There could be a community for Twilight stories that have Bella and Jasper are the main couple or the stories that are strictly canon couples (original couples). There are also communities that are a list of a certain author’s opinion of the best stories that they have come across.

On FanFiction there are also contests held. For example recently there was a contest called "Paul's Imprint Contest" held by an author called bexxyy. This is where you had to comply with rules given to participate. One such rule was that it had to be a certain length; in this case it was over 1500 words. The pairing in the story had to be Paul and another character.

FANFICTION

At this point in time at 14.04pm on a Sunday i would normally be on a website that has the worlds largest archive of FanFiction. The site would be FanFiction.net. The site was founded in 1998 and by 2002 there were more than 118,000 users. This site allows you to use the characters of any story that you like and make a story using them. You may just want to change the ending of the original story or put them into your own. FanFiction is a fun place to go to write stories and present your ideas to fellow fans of whatever it is you're writing for. It also helps develop your own personal writing skills.

As of May 9th, 2010 the top 3 fandoms on the site (that is, the fandoms with the most stories submitted) are:

  1. The Harry Potter fandom with 454,447 fanfic's based on the series.
  2. The Naruto fandom with 235,284 fanfic's based on the series.
  3. The Twilight Saga fandom with 144,471fanfic's based on the series.

Some on the fanfics I have read could have the potential to become full novels or a series. For instance a fanfic called 'Welcome to Drama Academy', which had over 12,000 reviews, was taken down because the author decided to write it as a novel.

Another example of a fanfic turning into a published book is Boycotts and Barflies by Victoria Michaels (also know as vjgm on fanfiction). While on FanFiction it had around 200,000 words.

There are more than 1,700 Twilight fanfic alone that are have more than 300,000 words.
I have come across many examples.
  • The Ex Factor: Edward & Bella by AngelAtTwilight has at total of 846,269 words.
  • Rebel Without a Cause by MissAlex has a current total of 694,643 words and the story hasn't been completed yet!
  • Help Wanted by jaxon22 has a total of 621,808 words.

At this moment i have just after finishing reading a fanfic called My Best Friend's Kid. It is full of laughter and funny situations. Is has 43 chapters at the moment and is still being updates.
